By accessing or using CHESS.PGN ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access the Platform.

2. Description of Service

CHESS.PGN is a chess learning and tournament platform that provides interactive lessons, tactics training, opening exploration, tournament listings, coaching directories, real-time messaging, and related chess services. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the service at any time.

3. User Accounts

To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete registration information.
  • Maintain the security of your password and account.
  • Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account.
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
  • Not create more than one account per person.
  • Not share your account credentials with others.

4. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users.
  • Use chess engines, bots, or external assistance during games or tactics without authorization.
  • Attempt to manipulate ratings, rankings, or tournament results.
  • Impersonate any person or entity or falsely represent your affiliation.
  • Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other malicious code.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Platform or its infrastructure.
  • Scrape, data-mine, or collect information from the Platform without permission.
  • Post spam, advertisements, or unsolicited content.

5. Content and Intellectual Property

All content on the Platform, including but not limited to lessons, courses, text, graphics, logos, and software, is the property of CHESS.PGN or its content providers and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from our content without explicit permission. User-generated content (profiles, messages, etc.) remains yours, but you grant us a license to use, display, and distribute it on the Platform.

6. Tournaments and Events

Tournament listings on CHESS.PGN are provided for informational purposes. We are not the organizer of all listed tournaments unless explicitly stated. We are not responsible for the organization, conduct, or outcomes of third-party tournaments. Users should verify tournament details directly with the respective organizers before participating.

7. Coaching Services

The Platform provides a directory of chess coaches. We do not employ, endorse, or guarantee the quality of any coach listed. Any coaching arrangement is solely between the user and the coach. We are not liable for any disputes, damages, or issues arising from coaching engagements.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any defects will be corrected. We disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CHESS.PGN and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Platform. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or one hundred dollars ($100), whichever is greater.

10. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our discretion, with or without notice, for conduct that violates these Terms, is harmful to other users, or for any other reason. You may also terminate your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately.

11. Privacy

Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. Please review it to understand our practices regarding your personal data.

12. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms of Service at any time by updating this page. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. We will notify users of significant changes via email or a notice on the Platform.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall be resolved in the courts of the Philippines.
